Given the recent diversification of materials research, the department has reduced the number of mandatory credits and, instead, expanded elective options for greater exposure to new material properties. Multidisciplinary education has been strengthened with the introduction of courses on nanomaterial technology, biomaterials, polymer materials, nanomaterial process simulation, and introduction to electronic components and systems. The curriculum also offers more opportunities for students to indirectly experience applications of emerging materials.
