📚 About the Program

As a dentist, you work to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat oral and dental diseases. There will be high demands on dental knowledge, practical skills, scientific knowledge and professional competence. The dental education aims to create the conditions for you as a student to develop the ability for lifelong learning in an area of knowledge driven by research and change. You therefore need to acquire both basic knowledge and practical skills to achieve a deeper understanding of the profession. Dentistry is a varied and creative profession with a lot of patient contact. As a qualified dentist, you also have a social responsibility, which means that you will need to have a holistic view, act sustainably and work for change with the equal value of people in focus. The profession is carried out in close collaboration with the other professions in the dental care team, therefore the training has an early focus on communication, leadership and collaboration. The goal is for you to function well in Swedish dental care, and therefore communication, presentations and reports take place mainly in Swedish. The five-year education is full-time. The studies are based on active participation in all stages, which is a prerequisite for developing the skills needed for you to become a good dentist. Participation means that you read recommended course literature every week, which you then process in groups, at seminars, in written assignments or oral reports. The training is permeated by working with digital tools and in the physical space where practice and theory go hand in hand with early patient contact. The main part of the course literature is in English. The education also has international elements with communication in English. Dental education at Malmö University is characterized by challenge-based learning where different situations or concrete and profession-related problems form the starting point for learning. The education is at advanced level, which means that you are directly eligible to apply for postgraduate education after graduation.
