Bahçeşehir University

Bachelor in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts

İstanbul, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Gastronomy and Culinary Arts combines practical cooking training with the study of food science, nutrition, culinary history, and hospitality management. Students typically take courses in kitchen techniques, food safety and hygiene, menu planning, baking and pastry, world cuisines, wine and beverage studies, food and beverage cost control, and restaurant management. Much of the learning happens in professional kitchen and laboratory settings, where students practice knife skills, cooking methods, and plating alongside theoretical study of ingredients, flavor pairing, and food chemistry. The program also covers the business side of the culinary world, including supply chain management, entrepreneurship, and the operational demands of restaurants, hotels, and catering companies. Internships in professional kitchens or hospitality establishments are a common component, giving students direct experience of commercial food production before graduation. Graduates go on to work as chefs, pastry chefs, kitchen managers, food and beverage consultants, culinary instructors, and entrepreneurs opening their own restaurants or food businesses. This bachelor's program is delivered in English over 4 years at Bahçeşehir University in İstanbul, Turkey. Studying in İstanbul places students within a city long recognized for its diverse culinary traditions, spanning Ottoman, Anatolian, and Mediterranean influences, which provides a rich practical backdrop for coursework in world cuisines and food culture. English-medium instruction also connects students to international culinary literature and prepares them for careers with global hospitality brands. Across the 4-year curriculum, students progress from foundational cooking and food science courses to advanced electives in pastry, restaurant operations, or food entrepreneurship, culminating in a capstone project or supervised internship.
