Bachelor in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design

Interior Architecture and Environmental Design is concerned with the planning and design of interior spaces and their relationship to the surrounding built environment, combining principles from architecture, design theory, and environmental science. Students study spatial design, materials and construction methods, lighting, furniture and fixture design, building codes, and computer-aided design and visualization tools, alongside courses in design history and theory. Coursework typically involves studio projects in which students design interior spaces for residential, commercial, or institutional buildings, developing skills in space planning, material selection, and presentation of design concepts. Graduates work as interior designers, design consultants, and space planners for architecture and design firms, furniture and fixture companies, or as independent practitioners, and may continue into graduate study in architecture or design. The discipline requires both creative design ability and technical understanding of construction and materials, and successful practitioners typically develop a personal design approach over several years of project work. This program is a 4 year bachelor's degree taught in English at Istanbul Okan University in Istanbul, Turkey. English-medium instruction gives students access to international design literature, software, and case studies used across the interior design profession.
