Bachelor in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design

Interior Architecture and Environmental Design focuses on planning and shaping indoor and outdoor built environments to be functional, safe, and aesthetically coherent. Students typically study spatial design principles, materials and construction methods, lighting, furniture design, building codes, sustainability, and the use of design software for drafting and 3D modeling. Studio-based coursework forms a central part of the curriculum, with students developing projects that range from residential interiors to commercial and public spaces, often supported by critiques from faculty and peers. The discipline sits at the intersection of architecture, interior design, and environmental planning, so students also engage with topics such as ergonomics, accessibility, and the relationship between built spaces and their surrounding landscapes. Graduates go on to work as interior architects, environmental designers, design consultants, or join architecture and construction firms, and some continue into postgraduate study in architecture or urban design. This program is taught in English and runs for 4 years at Istanbul Galata University in İstanbul, Turkey. The four-year structure allows time to progress from foundational design theory and technical drawing in the early years toward more complex, independent studio projects in the later years. Being based in İstanbul offers students exposure to a city with a long architectural history alongside contemporary urban development, which can inform coursework and design references throughout the program.
