IT and economics

Malmo University is a public university in Malmo, Sweden. It was founded in 1998 and is one of the youngest universities in Sweden. The university has over 25,000 students and 3,000 staff members. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in the fields of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and law. Malmo University is ranked #701-800 in the QS World University Rankings 2024. It is also a member of the European University Association.

We live in a changing society where digitization is becoming increasingly important in our everyday lives. In fact, all sectors of society are affected and challenged. We see an emergence of new companies that effectively take advantage of the possibilities of digitization, challenge and change the foundations of the way most organizations and authorities work. We see how the so-called gig and sharing economy (AirBnb, Karma, Voi) grows and develops. There, the digital platform is a central organizing principle that fundamentally changes the conditions for value creation. A central competence in this digital transformation is the understanding of information technology (IT) both as technology and its role as a social and cultural actor in society. Together with the understanding of how organizations and companies work financially, you are given the conditions to build a secure foundation for developing in a wide range of professional roles. The need for people with competence in both IT and finance is great and continues to grow. The education program IT and economics is an interdisciplinary education program. The program combines these two subjects with a focus on generating knowledge, skills and an understanding of the interaction between IT and finance in organizations.
