McNeese State University’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program prepares master’s level graduates to function as counselors within the community in a variety of settings, including private and public agencies. This program offers specialized training in the areas of individual and group counseling and provides the academic training necessary to apply for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Training emphasizes the development of evidence-based assessment of intervention skills. The student is required to complete 44 hours of core credits (credits shared by the Master of Science in School Counseling program) and 16 credit hours specific to Clinical Mental Health Counseling for a total of 60 credit hours. This is a non-thesis program that includes a practicum and internship. McNeese State University’s Department of Psychology and Counseling has many off-campus practicum and internship sites for students to gain valuable experience while completing the Master of Science degree.
