About the Program

This Organoleptic Judge Course is designed for professionals such as academics, doctors, dentists, and nurses who want to enhance their olfactory skills. The course lasts either two or five days and is delivered face-to-face at the Frenchay Campus. Participants will develop their ability to assess odours, particularly malodour, through practical and theoretical training.

The curriculum includes lectures on oral malodour and its causes, as well as practical assessments involving odour strength tests and discrimination tests. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, including screening tests for anosmia and using advanced instruments for analysis. This course equips students with essential skills for evaluating odour in clinical settings.

Upon completion, participants receive a certificate of competence. This course can also contribute towards further qualifications such as the PGCert in Health and Social Care or the MSc in Clinical Practice. Graduates may find roles in healthcare, research, or academia, where their skills in sensory evaluation are increasingly valued.
