Bachelor in Space Engineering

Space Engineering covers the design and operation of spacecraft and space systems, including subjects such as orbital mechanics, spacecraft propulsion, satellite systems, and space structures. Students build a foundation in mathematics and physics before moving into specialized coursework on spacecraft design, communications systems, and mission analysis, supported by project work that applies these principles to space system problems. The curriculum typically also covers topics such as space environment effects on materials and electronics, guidance and control systems, and satellite communications, giving students a broad technical base across the many systems that make up a functioning spacecraft. Courses in orbital mechanics teach students to calculate and plan spacecraft trajectories, while propulsion coursework covers the systems used to launch and maneuver spacecraft in orbit. Laboratory and project work allow students to apply these principles to design exercises, often working in teams to plan a hypothetical spacecraft mission or subsystem. Many programs include a final-year design project, in which students bring together material from across the curriculum to address a substantial space engineering problem. Graduates of space engineering programs pursue careers with aerospace manufacturers, satellite operators, and space agencies, and the degree also serves as a foundation for further graduate study in aerospace or space systems engineering.
