This programme integrates art therapy and counseling theories with hands-on clinical training. Students develop an identity as artist-therapists through experiential learning and supervised practice. The curriculum emphasizes ethical practice, cultural competence, and the therapeutic use of visual art. It is the only accredited art therapy graduate programme in Wisconsin.

Focus areas include art therapy, counseling, trauma treatment, neuroaesthetics, community-based art therapy, elder art therapy.

The programme requires 60 credits, including 39 credits in art therapy, 21 credits in counseling, a 700-1,000 hour supervised training experience, and a culminating project. The structure follows a three-year developmental progression from foundational to advanced clinical application.

Graduates work as licensed art therapists in psychiatric facilities, medical clinics, schools, rehabilitation centres, and community mental health organisations.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, have completed 18 credits in studio arts and 12 credits in psychology, maintain a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA, and submit transcripts, letters of recommendation, a portfolio, a career goals statement, and an academic writing sample. The application deadline is January 15.

The programme totals about 60 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, three-year programme. For international students, tuition is below the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 93% of applicants.
