Pharmacy has shaped the institution since 1864, when St. Louis College of Pharmacy was established. It became the first chartered college of pharmacy west of the Mississippi River in 1866 and adopted the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis name in 2020. The Doctor of Pharmacy includes 130 hours of required coursework and 12 semester hours of elective or selective study in areas such as clinical services, community care and public health. Five integrated skills labs connect patient care coursework with practice. Students train in community, pharmaceutics and hospital labs, clinical exam rooms and collaborative classrooms using electronic health records. Research opportunities include drug discovery, clinical studies and health policy.

Experiential education includes hands-on exposure to pharmacy practice settings through more than 500 rotation sites, with pathways ranging from community and hospital practice to industry, public health and medication development. Students can combine the Pharm.D. with an MBA or graduate certificate through the University of Missouri St. Louis. Applicants use PharmCAS and must complete prerequisite coursework. International students should also consider the announced transition: pending regulatory approval, Washington University in St. Louis is set to acquire the campus and St. Louis College of Pharmacy after the 2026-27 academic year.
