About the Program

The MSc in Computer and Geoscience in Archaeology at HTWD — University of Applied Sciences Dresden bridges archaeology with computer science and spatial information science. The programme is designed to upskill graduates from archaeology and related fields by providing training in computer and geosciences as applied to archaeological research and cultural heritage practice. Running over 4 semesters beginning in the winter semester, the curriculum covers GIS, remote sensing, 3D documentation and processing, research data management with a focus on open data and linked open data, and the strategies and legal and ethical standards surrounding knowledge dissemination and public outreach. Students study subjects including geodesy, photogrammetry, data science and engineering, computational archaeology, digital 3D documentation, reconstructive 3D modelling, and remote sensing, distributed across the first three semesters. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. During the programme, students may participate in the research projects of cooperating institutions, gaining field experience.
