This programme is designed for students interested in leading outdoor experiences and working with diverse groups in natural environments. You will develop leadership, risk management, and communication skills through hands-on field courses and real-world expeditions. The curriculum emphasizes place-based learning and the social, historical, and political contexts of outdoor spaces. Students engage in experiential learning from their first year, including a full semester spent in the field across the Intermountain West.

The programme requires 120 credits, including introductory and upper-level courses, electives, a required internship, and a 75-day field semester. Students earn academic credit for outdoor certifications and field-based coursework.

Graduates enter roles such as field instructor, outdoor educator, park ranger, professional guide, wilderness medicine instructor, and outdoor program coordinator.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Admission requires submission of transcripts, a personal statement, and a resume. No standardized test scores are required.

The programme totals about 120 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, four-year programme with a semester-long field experience between sophomore and senior year. For international students, tuition is above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 69% of applicants.
