Izmir Katip Çelebi University

Bachelor in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering

İzmir, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering focuses on the exploration, extraction, and production of oil and natural gas resources, covering the engineering methods used to locate reserves and bring them to the surface efficiently and safely. Students study geology, reservoir engineering, drilling engineering, and production engineering, gaining an understanding of how petroleum and gas deposits form, how they are located through exploration techniques, and how wells are drilled and managed over their productive life. Coursework typically combines geoscience subjects with engineering fundamentals such as fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, along with specialized courses covering drilling technology, well completion, and reservoir simulation. Laboratory and computer modeling exercises allow students to practice analyzing reservoir data and simulating production scenarios, skills directly applicable to the energy industry. Safety, environmental management, and the technical challenges of extracting resources from increasingly complex reservoirs are common themes throughout the curriculum. Graduates of petroleum and natural gas engineering programs pursue careers with oil and gas exploration and production companies, drilling contractors, energy consultancies, and, in some cases, related roles in geothermal or other subsurface resource industries. This program is delivered in English at Izmir Katip Çelebi University, located in İzmir, Turkey, and runs for 4 years, combining geoscience and engineering coursework within the university's engineering faculty resources.
