📚About the Program

Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Adam Mickiewicz University

Bachelor level Liberal Arts and Science programs offer a viable approach toward learning that provides students with the skills and competences required for advanced study, for productive professional careers and for meaningful lives. They require a certain framework within which to implement core characteristics but that framework is flexible and relies as much on process as structure. Finally, it demands well-prepared, active teaching in order to realize the full measure of its objectives. Given the progress and successes achieved so far, it seems worthwhile to begin to identify where and how some of the elements of liberal arts and sciences we have described can be applied to Bachelor- level curricula more widely. Our program was accepted into ECOLAS (European Consortium of Liberal Arts and Sciences). The founders are three experienced scientists and educators: Samuel Abraham (Bratislava International School for Liberal Arts, Slovakia), Hans P.M. Adriaenssens (founder and dean of University College Roosevelt, The Netherlands) and Laurent Boetsch (President Emeritus of ECLA, Berlin). The goal of ECOLAS multidimensional support for Liberal Arts and Sciences education. Core courses establish a general framework for your future mastery of different fields of knowledge. They include philosophy, research methodology, logic, academic writing and many others. You will also have an opportunity to improve your English language skills during EFL classes throughout all three years of the program as well as learn ancient Greek and Latin. Disciplinary courses offer you the specific knowledge from various disciplines, for example, biology, physics, geography, political sciences and history. Elective courses allow you to pursue your own individual study interests. Starting from the second year of the program, you can choose one course from the LAS offer, and two courses from the study offers of various AMU Faculties. Graduates of the Liberal Arts and Sciences often appeal to employers who seek job candidates with analytical and communications skills. Liberal arts and sciences graduates could continue their education in a number of fields, such as medicine, law or education. A liberal arts and sciences curriculum usually contains courses, such as communication, technology and math that can apply to numerous careers in business, academia, government or the nonprofit sector.
