Feng Chia University (FCU) was founded in 1961 in the city of Taichung on the west coast of Taiwan. Originally called the Feng Chia College of Engineering and Business, the university status was granted in 1980. Since then FCU has grown in terms of student numbers and in scope to become one of the most successful universities in Taiwan. The university also has close ties to industry and commerce offering professional internship opportunities through its graduate scheme as well as fostering industry partnerships and running its own incubator to help students turn their ideas into viable businesses.

"Loyalty, Diligence, Sincerity, Perseverance" were the four words of Feng Chia's motto added in 1964. Different from the meaning in the past, the motto now has a new interpretation, "loyal to things, diligent in learning, sincere in heart, and persevere in action", as the benchmark attitudes of teachers and students.

Overview

Striving continuously with perseverance for over forty years, Feng Chia has earned the reputation of becoming one of the most promising comprehensive universities in Taiwan. Currently it takes around 20,000 graduate and undergraduate students yearly in its eight Colleges. Its more than 150,000 graduates, today working for governmental agencies and private enterprises, have contributed enormously to the overall economy-miracle of Taiwan.

In the contemporary era of high technology and knowledge-based economy, the acquiring and applying of knowledge should be specialized, diversified, and multi-functional. The University therefore has directed its construction toward renovating the campus environment and facilities to cater for an e-learning era. The newly renovated digitalized Main Library adds to the traditional book-storing place with an active e-learning workshop. The new spirit of vitality is also seen in the establishment of many new innovative institutions, such as the Geographical Information System Research Center, the Business Incubation Center, the E-Commerce Research Center, and the Nano-Technology Research Center.

In order to encourage international students to apply for Feng Chia University, the school will award each year 10 overseas Chinese and foreign students at the amount of NT 120,000 each. As long as the recipients maintain a certain grade average, they will receive the same amount for the next three years. The four year total is the highest among all scholarships in Taiwan.
