📚About the Program

Non-degree in Advanced Entry at Langara College

Langara’s Advanced Entry to the Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN) is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the province of BC. This program provides successful candidates with the opportunity to complete Pathophysiology 2192 and then enter into term 3 of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This means that the length of study from the time students enter the Advanced Entry to the time they graduate from the BSN is two years and eight months (eight consecutive semesters) with the first semester including the one Pathophysiology course and the remaining seven semesters at full-time. In addition to the term 2 Pathophysiology course, students will participate in a mandatory orientation course to the BSN. This course is non-credit and carries no tuition or fees except the cost of textbooks and NCLEX resources. Program Outcomes Enhance professional oral and written communication Build upon knowledge and practice skills Strengthen decision making skills Provide access to BSN education The curriculum is based on the tenets of five central philosophies and is designed to educate students to work with individuals, families, and communities from a caring and health-promotion perspective. Students explore the concepts associated with health/healing, professional growth, self and others, nursing practice, nursing knowledge, nursing skills, health sciences, arts, and humanities courses through classroom, laboratory, and clinical practice experiences. The language of education in the Faculty of Nursing is English. A high level of understanding and functionality in English is essential for safe client care in all areas where health care professionals work in British Columbia. In addition, a foundational understanding of mathematics including decimals, fractions, and metric conversions is also essential. The Advanced Entry BSN has two intakes of students per year (Spring [January] and Summer [May]) and subsequent semesters will be completed sequentially. Therefore, there is no time off during the program. However, there are college breaks of approximately two weeks duration between semesters. The Faculty of Nursing requires all Advanced Entry students to participate in a mandatory orientation course while studying Pathophysiology 2192. This orientation course is designed to support transition to the BSN with orientation to the curriculum, key elements specific to Langara, review of mathematical and writing skills and orientation to NCLEX success resources. Students admitted to the Advanced Entry BSN will receive orientation details from the Faculty of Nursing after they accept their offers. NOTE: Course names that end in "Practice" or "Practice Experience" are clinical placement experiences and occur off-campus in a variety of health care facilities and settings. Students will need to make themselves available for clinical practice experiences which may take place during the week, weekends, evenings or days shifts, depending on the term. NOTE: Two seats in the Advanced Entry BSN are reserved for prospective Indigenous students. As the program continues to evolve, the information presented on the College website and in the College Calendar is subject to change. Show less
