Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences

Bachelor in Applied Informatics

Freising, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Applied Informatics at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences connects computer science to the life sciences, training students to analyse and optimise biological and technical processes through software. The programme begins with foundations in informatics, mathematics, physics, and chemistry in the first year. At the end of that year, students choose a life science profile — such as food or brewing technology, sustainable engineering, or molecular biology — and build specialised competence in applying software to processes within that area, from the production of antibiotics to bioinformatic analysis of natural systems. Running over 7 semesters with entry each October, the programme includes a practical semester in the fifth semester, during which students complete an internship in industry or in a research project or institution. Core learning areas include software development, problem-solving, programming design and implementation, and collaborative work in interdisciplinary teams. The curriculum balances practical courses and lectures, with teaching oriented toward real application in the life sciences. Students who complete the programme are positioned to develop software and apply data-driven methods in a range of life science industries. The programme is taught in English at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences in Freising.
