About the Program

The Elite Master's Programme in Biomedical Neuroscience at the Technical University of Munich is an interdisciplinary four-semester course delivered jointly by natural scientists and clinical researchers. The programme provides in-depth training in basic neuroscience and neuropsychiatric diseases, covering theoretical foundations and the practical techniques used in both basic and clinical research. Teaching combines lectures with hands-on laboratory sessions and project-oriented work in the laboratories of participating institutes. The curriculum extends beyond core neuroscience into data analysis, scientific ethics, management, and communication. Students gain a thorough understanding of brain structure and function from the molecular and cellular level up to large-scale circuits and behaviour, as well as the mechanisms and treatment strategies of neuropsychiatric conditions. Lab rotations and practical work expose students to relevant technologies in both research settings. The first two semesters cover foundational and systems neuroscience topics; the third involves a qualifying colloquium and lab rotations; the fourth is dedicated to the Master's thesis and colloquium. The programme starts in the winter semester and runs over four semesters at the Technical University of Munich in Munich, Germany.
