About the Program

Industrial Design trains students to conceive, develop, and refine products that balance function, aesthetics, and usability, spanning consumer goods, furniture, electronics, and other manufactured items. Coursework typically includes design studios, sketching and drawing, materials and manufacturing processes, ergonomics, computer-aided design, and design history, alongside project-based work that takes concepts from initial idea through prototype. Students learn to research user needs, generate design solutions, and communicate ideas through drawings, models, and digital renderings. This bachelor's program runs for 4 years and is taught in English at Yeditepe University in İstanbul, Turkey, allowing students to build a design portfolio while working alongside an international cohort. The curriculum generally emphasizes hands-on studio work, critique sessions, and collaboration with peers, mirroring the iterative process used in professional design practice. Graduates pursue careers as product designers, design consultants, and researchers, working with manufacturing companies, design studios, and technology firms across industries such as consumer electronics, furniture, transportation, and household goods. Some continue into graduate study in design, engineering, or related creative fields. Because industrial design requires both creative and technical competence, students also develop skills in materials science, manufacturing constraints, and sustainability considerations relevant to product development. Located in İstanbul, a city with a growing design and manufacturing sector, students have opportunities to engage with local industry and observe how design decisions translate into produced goods, enriching the studio-based learning that forms the core of the program over its four years.
