Adelphi University

Adelphi’s main campus occupies 75 acres in Garden City, Long Island, with residence halls, the Ruth S. Harley University Center and facilities such as the Nexus Building. Additional learning hubs serve students in Manhattan, the Hudson Valley and Suffolk County, while online programs extend the university’s reach. New York City and Long Island provide the wider setting for study, professional opportunities and campus visits.

The institution began as Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn in 1863 and was chartered as Adelphi College in 1896. It moved to Garden City in 1929 and became the first private coeducational institution of higher education on Long Island. Today, Adelphi is organized into eight schools and colleges, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the Willumstad School of Business, the College of Nursing and Public Health, the Derner School of Psychology and the School of Social Work.

Academic study combines small classes, faculty mentoring, internships, research and hands-on learning. Students can choose from undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, including accelerated 4+1 pathways and online options. Adelphi offers study-abroad programs ranging from faculty-led and alternate-break experiences to full-semester placements.
