Barnard College

Barnard College is a women’s liberal arts college in New York City, partnered with Columbia University. Its history includes graduates such as Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, a suffragist from the class of 1916 who became the first Chinese woman in the United States to earn a doctorate. Today, the College brings together about 3,200 students and more than 40,000 alumnae.

The academic experience spans the sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences. Students take part in research, including summer projects presented at the Lida Orzeck ’68 Poster Session, and can use academic centers and the Milstein Center for Teaching and Learning. Barnard also offers programs connected with leadership, journalism, public service, health professions, engineering, international and public affairs, public health, and quantitative methods in the social sciences. The Columbia connection includes BA/MA pathways and other collaborative opportunities.

Campus life combines residence halls, student organizations, athletics, well-being services, and community programs. Visitors can explore classrooms, laboratories, academic centers, and housing through in-person and virtual tours. International students have access to International Student Services and campus housing options, including Quad and off-Quad residence halls and housing exchanges with Columbia. The College also provides information for prospective students about admission, financial aid, and eligibility for its women’s college.
