    Introduction

Erikson Institute began in 1966, when its founders recognized the need for professionals who understood children’s complex social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The institute grew around a mission of serving children and families through education, family services, research, and leadership. Today, it prepares professionals to address challenges affecting young children, their families, and communities, with a focus on educational, social, emotional, and physical well-being.

Academic options include master’s degrees in child development, early childhood education, early intervention, and social work. Students can also pursue a child life specialization, an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health certificate, and a Social and Emotional Learning certificate. Professional development courses, seminars, fellowships, and workshops cover early care, education, developmental psychology, mental health, social work, early math, trauma-responsive practice, equity, and family engagement. Field service and research-based learning connect study with professional practice.

Located at 451 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago, Erikson brings together academic programs, family services, and research, policy, and leadership work. Its research informs policy decisions in Chicago and across the United States, while community services provide resources for families, community partners, and state agencies. International students can explore graduate programs and should review the institute’s international requirements as part of the admissions process.
