Bachelor in International Relations

Karabük, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

International Relations examines how states, international organizations, and other global actors interact through diplomacy, conflict, trade, and cooperation. Coursework covers international politics, international law, foreign policy analysis, and the history of the international system, alongside topics such as global political economy, security studies, and regional studies focused on specific parts of the world. Students learn theoretical frameworks used to explain state behavior and international cooperation, while also developing practical skills in policy analysis, negotiation, and research writing. The discipline draws on political science, economics, history, and law, giving students a broad, interdisciplinary foundation for understanding global affairs. Seminar discussions and case studies are common teaching methods, encouraging students to apply theoretical concepts to current and historical international events. Many programs also include coursework on international organizations such as the United Nations and regional bodies, as well as the mechanics of diplomacy and treaty-making. Research and writing skills are emphasized throughout, since careers in the field often require producing clear policy analysis or briefing materials for decision makers. Graduates pursue careers in diplomacy, government ministries, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and policy research institutes, as well as roles in international business, journalism, and academia. The degree also serves as preparation for graduate study in law, public policy, or area studies. This bachelor's program is delivered in English over 4 years at Karabük University in Karabük, Turkey. English-medium instruction is well suited to the field, since diplomacy and international organizations commonly operate in English, and much of the scholarly literature in international relations is published in English. The four-year sequence builds from foundational political science courses toward specialized electives in the later years.
