About the Program

The MSc Microelectronics and Chip Design at the Technical University of Munich is a four-semester programme focused on semiconductor chip design, developed as part of the Edu4Chip project — a collaboration among five European universities. The programme addresses the shortage of qualified chip designers by providing both theoretical and practical training across the full chip design process. The first semester introduces foundational skills in digital and analogue design. The second semester covers more advanced front-end design topics, and the third semester offers specialised courses in back-end design. A central component running throughout the programme is a chip design project, in which all students participate in every step of the process, culminating in a tape-out. The fourth semester is devoted to the Master's thesis, which may be conducted in collaboration with industry. The programme's learning objectives span knowledge and understanding, skills and abilities, and evaluation capability. Applications open from 1 February to 31 May each year; non-EU applicants are advised to apply by 15 March. The programme starts in the winter semester and is offered at the Technical University of Munich in München, Germany.
