Pforzheim University

Master of Arts in Design & Future Making

Pforzheim, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The MA in Design and Future Making at Pforzheim University is a three-semester programme built around a personal research theme that each student develops and deepens throughout their studies. The curriculum sits at the intersection of low-tech analogue craft processes and high-tech intelligent and interactive technologies, using that tension to develop a new understanding of craftsmanship. Project work constitutes at least two-thirds of the curriculum. Each semester combines courses, seminars, workshops, and field trips, with regular sessions held primarily two and a half days per week and the remaining time reserved for independent study or mentored project work. Subject-specific mentors provide input across different project contexts. Students have access to workshops for gold, silver, electroplating, wood, plastics, textiles, and ceramics, as well as facilities for photography, screen printing, and painting, alongside dedicated workspace. Connections to small and large manufactories in the Northern Black Forest region create additional research and collaboration opportunities. The programme starts in the winter semester with applications due by 30 April. It is based at Pforzheim University in Pforzheim, Germany.
