Bachelor of Arts in Professional Translation

This programme prepares students to translate English texts into French across various fields. It is offered at the University of Sherbrooke campus in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and is available in both regular full-time and part-time formats. Students can also pursue a cooperative education option with paid work terms. The programme is recognized by the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ).

The curriculum includes 90 credits divided into required courses in translation, language and culture, and writing and communication. Core courses cover translation techniques, terminology, literary and technical translation, and professional contexts. Students choose from optional courses in areas like Indigenous literature, creative writing, media, and advanced grammar. A capstone project and practical training are included.

Admission requires strong command of both French and English. Applicants must meet C2 level in French and C1 level in English through approved tests or prior studies. The programme starts in the fall and winter terms. Graduates are qualified to become certified translators or terminologists under OTTIAQ standards.
