These ranges are the official concordance tables published by the test administrators (ETS for TOEFL iBT — n=1,153 study, Pearson for PTE Academic, Duolingo for the Duolingo English Test). They measure equivalent bands of English proficiency, not exact raw-score equivalence. A university's admissions page is always the authoritative source for which test (and which score) it actually accepts.

Are these conversions exact?
No — they are official concordance tables published by ETS (TOEFL), Pearson (PTE), and Duolingo. Each test measures slightly different skills, so the score ranges represent equivalent bands of proficiency, not identical raw scores.
Does my target university accept IELTS to TOEFL conversion?
Most universities publish minimum scores per test (e.g. 'IELTS 7.0 OR TOEFL 100'). They do not usually accept a converted score from one test as a substitute for the other. Use the converter to gauge whether your score is competitive — then take the test the program asks for.
What is the CEFR equivalent of IELTS 6.5?
IELTS 6.5 maps to CEFR B2 (upper intermediate). This is typically the minimum for undergraduate admission to English-medium programs, and is below the C1 threshold many graduate programs require.
Which test should I take?
PTE rewards consistent fluency and gives results in 1–2 days; Duolingo is the cheapest ($65) and shortest but isn't accepted by Canadian or UK visa authorities; TOEFL is widely accepted and favors students comfortable with academic listening; IELTS is the safest universal choice and required for UK Tier 4 visas.
