    Is 300 a good GRE score?

    A 300 total is an even 150 Verbal and 150 Quant, which ETS's 2024 norms put at the 41st and 35th percentiles. Our calculator files that under "Below median (300-309) — retake recommended for top-50". It meets the stated minimum at many top-100 US master's programs, but funded places and top-50 admissions expect a markedly higher Quant, so budget for a retake if those are your targets.

    Is 310 a good GRE score?

    A 310 total is an even 155 Verbal and 155 Quant, which ETS's 2024 norms put at the 61st and 53rd percentiles. Our calculator files that under "Median (310-314) — comfortable for top-100". It is workable for top-100 US master's programs and for taught master's in the UK, Canada and Germany, where the GRE is optional or a soft signal. Top-50 STEM programs normally want a Quant well above 160.

    Is 320 a good GRE score?

The split matters as much as the sum: STEM adcoms read Quant first, so 155V/165Q reads stronger for engineering than an even split, while the reverse is true for humanities and policy programs.

At this level the GRE stops being the constraint on your application — research output, letters and fit decide top-10 outcomes. Treat 330 as two strong section scores rather than one ranked number.

    What's a good GRE score for MS in the US?
    Top-25 US graduate programs expect 320+ V+Q (≈90th percentile) for STEM, 325+ for the most selective schools. Top-50 ranges typically accept 315+. Programs publish their admitted-cohort GRE averages — that's the truest benchmark.
    Where do these percentiles come from?
    Percentiles are from ETS's official 2024 norm tables. They reflect the cumulative percentage of test-takers who scored at or below the given score in the prior 3-year reference period.
    Is there an official percentile for the GRE total score?
    No. ETS publishes percentile ranks for Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical Writing separately, not for the combined Verbal + Quant total. Any 'total percentile' you see — including our competitiveness bands — is an interpretation layered on top of the two section percentiles.
    Should I retake the GRE?
    Generally yes if your total V+Q is below your target program's published 25th-percentile admit. A 5-point lift to clear the 320 threshold is often the highest-leverage move when other parts of your profile are average.
