Bachelor in Recording Arts Technology/Technician (Bachelor's)

Elon’s academic offerings span more than 80 majors leading to bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts or bachelor of science degrees. Full-time faculty teach across six academic units: Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences; the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business; the School of Communications; the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education; the School of Health Sciences; and the School of Law. Academic options include engineering, environmental science, nursing, computer science, business, communications and international and global studies. Undergraduate research gives students the opportunity to work with faculty mentors, formulate questions and present findings at Elon’s Spring Undergraduate Research Forum and national conferences.

Learning at Elon extends beyond the classroom through five Elon Experiences: study abroad, internships, research, leadership and service. Students may earn academic credit through internships, work with employers, serve local and global communities, or develop leadership skills through the Center for Leadership. The campus includes the historic Alamance Building, Fonville Fountain, College Coffee, Medallion Plaza and Rhodes Stadium, with opportunities for classroom study, athletics and student activities.

International study is available through more than 160 programs in over 50 countries, including faculty-led programs, Elon Global Centers, affiliate and exchange opportunities, and Semester at Sea. Elon’s 4-1-4 academic calendar creates a month-long Winter Term for global study and Study USA programs. Longer options include centers in Dunedin, London and Florence, while Study USA programs take students to Charlotte, Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, D.C. Financial aid and study-abroad scholarships are expanding access to these experiences.

Students work in professional studios, operate audio equipment, and produce music recordings using industry-standard software. They engage in live sound engineering, post-production editing, and collaborative music creation across genres. The programme integrates technical training with creative projects in songwriting, composing for media, and music business. Students gain hands-on experience through internships and work with faculty who are active professionals in the field.

Focus areas include songwriting, composing for film and video games, audio engineering, music production, post-production audio, music business and entrepreneurship.

The programme requires 120 credits, including coursework in music technology, audio production, music theory, and business. Students complete a capstone project and participate in internships with industry partners.

Graduates work as music producers, recording engineers, live sound engineers, post-production audio editors, and music business professionals.

Applicants must submit high school transcripts, a personal statement, and a music audition or portfolio. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is recommended. Additional materials may include letters of recommendation.

The programme totals about 120 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, four-year programme. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 67% of applicants.
