Master in Advanced Functional Materials

Advanced Functional Materials is a four-semester Master's programme offered by the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology. Its central concerns are the advanced chemical and physical aspects of modern materials and the development of practical skills in synthesis, analysis, and manufacturing of functional materials. The curriculum is built on courses in materials chemistry and materials physics, which together form the interdisciplinary core of the degree. From that foundation, the programme extends into advanced topics in current research fields. Lab-oriented modules are integrated throughout, and the degree includes a research project and a Master's thesis that bring together the applied and investigative strands of the programme. Applicants are expected to arrive with basic laboratory experience, as practical work is a substantive part of the degree from an early stage. The programme accepts students holding a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science; degrees from universities other than Chemnitz University of Technology are assessed individually by a board of examiners on the basis of the applicant's record of study.
