These names dominate AI-abroad discussions online — here's what each one actually is, so you can weigh the reputation against your own maths background, budget, and target country.

Not every "AI degree" is the same degree

The year-by-year structure, not the title, decides which product you're looking at. Université PSL's International Bachelor of Science in AI is built around the subject from the start — PSL says it's based on active learning, collaborative projects, and strong research connections, and that Year 3 includes advanced AI classes, a laboratory or company internship, and a final-year project.

The University of Bath's BSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence takes a different shape: students get an introduction to AI in year one alongside general mathematics and programming skills, then move into more advanced and specialised AI units later in the degree. Neither structure is better by default — but they're genuinely different products wearing a similar title, and the right one depends on whether you want AI from day one or a broader computing foundation first.

The maths and language bar is real

AI-first programmes tend to expect more maths than a generic computing degree, and they're specific about it. PSL says applicants need an excellent level in mathematics, including advanced high-school topics like limits, differentiation and integration, discrete probability, complex numbers, and polynomial equations. All classes are taught in English, so PSL also requires C1-level English specifically — a higher bar than the IELTS-style thresholds many programmes use.

The University of Bath's equivalent degree lists A*AA at A-level including an A in mathematics, plus IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0 when English evidence is required. Both are demanding, but the exact bar differs by school and by how AI-first the curriculum actually is — a generic "good at maths" standard isn't enough, and the specific programme's published requirements are the only reliable check.

What you're actually paying for

The UK carries the largest single share of Global Admissions' AI inventory (310 of the 832 listed programmes), but that scale comes with a wide fee range. The University of Bath, for example, lists an overseas tuition fee of £32,000 for 2026/27 for its BSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and says students should budget for further annual increases of up to 8%.

Elsewhere in Europe, the picture looks different: Université PSL lists tuition of €19,500 a year for tax residents outside the EU on its AI bachelor's, plus a separate CVEC student contribution of €105 (2025/26 figure). Neither figure is a sector-wide benchmark. They're two real, sourced data points from two very different programmes — which is exactly why the country table below is worth checking before you assume one country or one number represents the whole field.
