    About Navajo Technical University

Navajo Technical University grew from a 1960s vision of tribes establishing their own higher-education institutions. It opened as the Navajo Skill Center in 1979 to meet the immediate needs of an unemployed population on the Navajo Nation. The institution has since developed into a university serving students through certificates, associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, and graduate programs.

Academic offerings cover STEM, business, applied technology, and the arts. NTU's educational philosophy follows four Diné teachings: Nitsáhákees, or thinking; Nahátá, planning; Īína, implementing; and Siihasin, reflection. These principles connect study in diverse fields with cultural values and economic opportunities. The university also supports research and workforce development across the Navajo Nation.

The main campus is in Crownpoint, New Mexico, with multiple instructional locations on the Navajo Nation. NTU provides a supportive, culturally diverse environment and honors Diné culture and language while educating for the future. International students can expect a student-first setting and access to scholarships and financial-aid opportunities available from first-year through doctoral study. Campus resource contacts can help with practical questions about studying across NTU's locations.
