Applied Life Science at Gyeongsang National University in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, is a master's program that applies biological knowledge to practical problems in agriculture, medicine, food science, and industry. The discipline covers subjects such as molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, and biotechnology, with coursework oriented toward using biological research to address applied questions rather than purely theoretical ones. Students in this program typically study laboratory techniques in molecular and cellular biology alongside coursework connecting these methods to areas such as food production, pharmaceuticals, and environmental biology. Because applied life science spans multiple industries, graduates of this program can pursue careers in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, food science and agricultural research institutes, environmental agencies, and academic research positions, with the flexibility to move between different applied biology sectors depending on their research focus during the program. Instruction throughout the program is delivered in English, allowing international students to study applied life science in South Korea without a Korean-language requirement for coursework. The program is completed over two years, with students able to begin in the spring semester starting in March or the autumn semester starting in September. Students typically join faculty-led laboratories, gaining research experience with the biological and biochemical methods used across applied life science fields. This breadth of application, from agriculture to medicine to industrial biotechnology, gives graduates of the program a flexible scientific foundation that can support careers across several life-science-related industries in South Korea and beyond.
