Master in Architecture – Design for the Built Environment (MA)

Berlin, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Architecture at SRH University Heidelberg is a three-semester Master of Arts programme built around a reflexive approach to architectural design within specific urban contexts. Students develop architectural ideas, concepts, and theories and put them into practice through design work situated in real urban fabric. Project-based teaching is extended by field trips, research projects, and academic events such as summer schools and conferences. The programme begins in the summer semester (April intake). First-semester modules include Architectural Theory, Building Construction, and Urban Analysis and Representation. The second semester focuses on an existing building, taking students through the steps of analysis, design, and building construction in existing fabric, rounded off by elective courses. The third semester is reserved for the Master's thesis. Admission requires a Bachelor's or Diplom degree in Architecture with at least 210 credit points and a final grade of 2.5 or better. Applicants who hold a 180-credit-point degree may acquire the additional 30 credits through a pre-course involving practical experience in an architectural office in Germany combined with a design project. SRH University delivers this programme in Heidelberg, with an additional location in Hamburg.
