    Introduction

Union College's identity is captured in its name: things come together. Liberal arts, engineering and entrepreneurship share the same academic setting, creating opportunities for students to explore different interests and combine areas of study. The college offers more than 62 areas of study, with academic work extending beyond the classroom through research alongside faculty.

Research is part of the experience across majors. Students work with faculty in laboratories, archives, studios and field settings. This hands-on approach applies to a broad range of subjects and gives students opportunities to develop questions, investigate ideas and connect academic learning with practical work. Union also prepares students for life after college through its focus on career outcomes.

The campus is in Schenectady, a New York city with restaurants and cafes, shops and boutiques, theaters and events. Hiking, biking and skiing are available minutes from campus, giving students access to outdoor activities as well as city amenities. More than 130 clubs and organizations cover interests from beekeeping and off-road racing to music festivals and movie nights. International students joining Union enter a community where academic exploration, research, student activities and the surrounding city all form part of daily life.

    About the Program

The Master of Athletic Training (MAT) is a two-year on-campus programme delivered in a cohort format. Students gain hands-on experience working with athletes from Union College’s 22 varsity teams throughout the programme. The curriculum includes a semester-long off-site internship and practical training in taping, bracing, wound care, and rehabilitation. The programme is fully accredited by CAATE and prepares students for certification and employment in athletic training.

The programme requires 60 credits and includes coursework, a semester-long practicum, and clinical experience. Students complete a total of 60 credits over two years, with no separate dissertation or capstone requirement.

Graduates enter roles as certified athletic trainers in college, high school, professional sports, hospitals, medical offices, industrial settings, and the performing arts.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Required documents include transcripts, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Prerequisites include specific science courses in anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics.

The programme totals about 60 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, two-year format; also offers a 3+2 joint degree option with a BS in Exercise Science completed in five years.
