About the Program

This program focuses on the interdisciplinary study of earth systems and atmospheric processes driving extreme weather and climate change. Students engage in research and training in field measurements, satellite data analysis, and numerical modeling. The program emphasizes practical application through work with federal research agencies and access to real-time meteorological data. It prepares students for careers in weather forecasting, environmental consulting, and government research.

Focus areas include Air quality modeling and field observation, Atmospheric chemistry and fluid dynamics, Atmospheric physics, Climate modeling, Mesoscale meteorology.

The program requires 30 credit hours of coursework and research. Students complete core courses in atmospheric sciences and specialize in one of five research areas. Transfer credits are reviewed by the program director.

Graduates enter roles in weather forecasting, environmental consulting, and government research institutions.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Required materials include a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, official transcripts, a resume, and an autobiographical statement. GRE scores are not required.

The programme totals about 30 credit hours. On-campus, full-time, typically completed in two years. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 35% of applicants.
