Automotive Engineering at Politecnico di Torino is a three-year bachelor's degree taught in English in Torino, Italy, with admission determined through an entrance examination and a secondary school diploma required of applicants. The field applies mechanical and electrical engineering principles specifically to the design, development, and production of road vehicles. Students typically study vehicle dynamics, engine and powertrain systems, automotive materials, and manufacturing processes, alongside foundational coursework in mechanics, thermodynamics, and electronics that underpins vehicle engineering. Coursework often extends into topics such as vehicle safety, emissions and environmental performance, and increasingly, the electrification of powertrains and the electronics involved in modern vehicle control systems. Laboratory and project work are common features of automotive engineering education, giving students hands-on experience with vehicle components and systems. Because the automotive industry spans mechanical design, electronics, and software, students in this field often develop a broad technical skill set that extends beyond traditional mechanical engineering. Graduates typically pursue roles with vehicle manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and engineering firms working on vehicle design, testing, or production. Others continue into further graduate study to specialize in areas such as vehicle dynamics, powertrain engineering, or automotive electronics. Torino has a long history as a center of the Italian automotive industry, giving the programme a directly relevant industrial context. Delivered fully in English, the bachelor's degree is designed to provide both Italian and international students with a solid foundation in automotive engineering principles, preparing them for further specialized study or entry-level positions within the automotive sector.
