The Bachelor of Laws at De Montfort University is an undergraduate law degree taught in English in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A Bachelor of Laws, commonly known by its abbreviation, is the standard entry qualification for legal study in many common law jurisdictions and covers the core subjects considered foundational to legal practice. Typical subjects include contract law, tort law, criminal law, property law, constitutional and administrative law, equity and trusts, and legal research and writing, alongside legal skills modules that train students to read case law, interpret legislation and build structured legal arguments. Teaching methods commonly combine lectures with seminars, moot court exercises and problem-based tutorials, since legal education places heavy emphasis on applying rules to specific fact patterns rather than memorizing law in the abstract. Students are also generally introduced to legal research methods, including how to use case reports, statutes and legal databases, skills that carry directly into professional legal work. Graduates of law degrees pursue a range of paths depending on the jurisdiction and their further qualifications, including training as solicitors, barristers or legal executives, moving into corporate legal departments, compliance and regulatory roles, government and public sector legal work, or further postgraduate legal study. Even graduates who do not go on to practice law commonly use the analytical, research and argumentation skills developed during a law degree in fields such as consulting, journalism, policy and business. Studying law in Dubai, at the campus of a university originally based in the United Kingdom, exposes students to a legal environment shaped by both civil law traditions and international commercial practice common in the United Arab Emirates. The program is delivered entirely in English.
