Overview Philosophy is the study of the nature of existence, knowledge, truth and ethics. Studying philosophy entails a particular way, or ways, of thinking while emphasizing clarity in expression (both written and verbal), and rigor in argument.  Philosophy maintains and encourages ties with other fields like Psychology, Linguistics, History, Political Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology.    The McGill Department of Philosophy provides you with an intensive but broad-based philosophical education. Department members’ interests are wide ranging both in subject matter and historical era and are supplemented by associated faculty from English, Jewish Studies, Religious Studies, and Psychiatry. These interests are reflected in the wide range of courses that are offered.
