About the Program

The Master of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of Konstanz is built around a wide selection of advanced courses, allowing each student to shape their curriculum according to their own interests and scientific background. Students may follow a general track or choose one of three pre-structured priority tracks: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Disease Biology, or Ecology, Evolutionary and Behavioural Biology. The Cellular and Molecular Biology track covers biochemistry, genetics, and biophysics as applied to macromolecules, with a specific link to the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology. The Disease Biology track addresses immunology and infections, cell death mechanisms, toxicology, stem cell research, cancer research, neurodegenerative diseases, and related molecular approaches. The Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour track trains students to develop research questions around organisms in their communities and environments, covering animal behaviour, ecology, evolution, physiology, and neurobiology. The programme runs over four semesters and totals 120 ECTS, including a mandatory Master's thesis worth 30 ECTS. Teaching takes place in small groups of no more than 15 students per advanced course.
