Biology is the scientific study of living organisms, covering their structure, function, growth, evolution, and interactions with their environment. Students typically progress through cellular and molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, botany, zoology, and ecology, developing both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills such as microscopy, culturing, and experimental design. Coursework in biochemistry, physiology, and evolutionary biology rounds out the core curriculum, while statistics and research methods courses prepare students to collect and interpret scientific data. In the later stages of the program, students often choose from electives in areas such as marine biology, conservation, or molecular genetics, and many complete an independent research project that draws on skills built throughout the degree. Career paths for biology graduates include research and laboratory work, environmental and conservation roles, food science, healthcare-adjacent professions, and secondary or higher education, with many students continuing into graduate study in specialized life science fields. The combination of rigorous laboratory training and broad scientific literacy developed through the program supports a wide range of scientific and technical career directions. This bachelor program is taught in English over a duration of 4 years at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, located in the city of Bolu, Turkey. Instruction in English connects students with the international scientific community and the majority of published research in the life sciences. Across the four years of the program in Bolu, students move from introductory science courses toward specialized biology electives, with laboratory and, where applicable, field-based coursework running throughout to ground theoretical learning in direct observation and experimentation.
