For civil engineering graduates or professionals working or aiming to work in bridge engineering, who already hold a BEng or equivalent and want to deepen analytical, design and assessment abilities. The part-time online programme combines two-hour live lectures on most evenings, recorded for flexibility, plus fortnightly workshops at the Sligo campus. You will study modules such as Geotechnical Engineering I & II, Structural Inspection and Assessment of Bridges and Design of Bridge Structures, completing continuous-assessment projects that simulate real bridge investigations, inspections and design tasks. The curriculum was developed with the Department of Transport and the Local Authority Services National Training Group, ensuring relevance to current standards and guidelines. Graduates are prepared for roles in bridge inspection, management and design within public road authorities or consultancy firms, and can progress to the Postgraduate Diploma or Master in Road and Transport Engineering for further qualification.
