Bachelor in BUT - Science des données

The BUT - Science des données (Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie in Data Science) at I.U.T de Metz, Université de Lorraine, in Metz, France, is a three-year bachelor-level program addressing the collection, storage, processing, analysis, and visualization of data at scale. The discipline brings together statistics, mathematics, and computer science to support evidence-based decision-making across industries and public institutions. Students study probability and inferential statistics, machine learning fundamentals, database design and query languages, programming in Python and R, data visualization techniques, and the management of large-volume datasets. Modules in data ethics, data governance, and project management give the degree a practical and responsible professional orientation alongside its technical content. The three-year BUT format includes applied projects in which students work on realistic data problems, as well as industry placements that connect classroom learning to professional data environments in business, public services, or research organizations. Graduates are prepared to work as data analysts, business intelligence developers, data engineers, or statistical analysts across sectors including finance, healthcare, logistics, marketing, and public administration. Many graduates continue to a specialized master's program to deepen expertise in machine learning, data engineering, or applied statistics. The program begins in September and lasts three years, with yearly tuition of 178 EUR. All instruction is in French.
