Certificate in Mathematics Teaching (Grades 5-9)

This programme is designed for teachers without a strong background in mathematics or those updating their knowledge of math curriculum and pedagogy. Students study key mathematics topics for grades 5-9 and learn teaching methods specific to these levels. The programme combines undergraduate math courses with graduate education courses focused on teaching strategies and assessment. It supports the development of a professional learning community through intensive summer sessions.

30 credit hours, part-time, includes summer and evening courses with online delivery; six undergraduate math courses and four graduate education courses; two-week summer intensives at Acadia University.

Graduates may qualify for a higher classification of teacher's certificate in Nova Scotia.

Applicants must hold a B.Ed. degree. Required documents include an online application, letter of intent, résumé, two reference letters, and official transcripts. A $40 application fee applies.
