Bachelor in Civiele Techniek

In Civiele Techniek at HZ, you’ll work with the Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ) on projects like the design and construction of storm barriers, sluices, tunnels, and artificial islands, such as the Palm Islands in Dubai.

You’ll study in Het Groene Woud in Middelburg, close to the Oosterscheldekering, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The programme covers the design and construction of large-scale infrastructure, focusing on coastal defence in areas where rivers and sea meet, such as the Netherlands' delta regions. By 2050, 80% of the world’s population will live in such areas, making your expertise crucial for sustainable living in these regions.

In the first year, you’ll analyse existing civil engineering infrastructure, such as bridges and quays, and learn about hydraulics and hydrology. You’ll also explore sustainability and circularity, advising on how to design cities and buildings that minimise energy use and environmental impact. In subsequent years, you’ll delve into inland infrastructure like roads, ports, and airports, and coastal protection structures. You’ll gain practical experience through a work placement and a minor, either at HZ or elsewhere, and culminate your studies with a final project at a company of your choice.
