Civil engineering asks how societies create and maintain the built environment – from roads and bridges to water and drainage networks. Understanding the principles of surveying, mechanics, materials and the digital tools that turn designs into reality is central to answering those questions. This apprenticeship mixes academic study with hands-on experience, giving you a solid grounding in the calculations, standards and design thinking that underpin infrastructure projects.

Each week you will operate total stations and GPS tools to carry out topographical surveys, produce site-layout drawings and build BIM models with Civil 3D. You will analyse forces and stresses in simple structures, solve engineering mathematics, create 2-D and 3-D CAD drawings and develop BIM deliverables. A substantial work-based learning component places you in an employer setting, allowing you to apply classroom learning directly to real projects while gaining recognised industry experience.
