Apprentices attend on-campus residential sessions at strategic points, with online lectures one day per week and an extra day per month for labs and workshops, while spending the remaining days learning on the job under an industry mentor.

ATU and the Civil Engineering Consortium Steering Group launched Ireland’s first civil-engineering apprenticeships in 2023, adding a Level 8 BEng (Hons) in 2026, providing a formal, work-based pathway into the profession.

The four-year blended programme is split into three semesters each year, combining mandatory academic modules with work-based learning that is assessed through projects and reports in the summer semester.
