Master in Classics (MA)

The MA in Classics is structured as a two-year (or longer) programme, with the first year focused on coursework and teaching assistant experience, and the second year dedicated to independent research leading to a thesis. Small graduate seminars allow intensive study of ancient texts in the original languages, while students develop pedagogical skills through undergraduate tutoring.

A distinctive feature of this course is its strong emphasis on ancient, late-ancient and medieval philosophy, a tradition that sets the department apart from most North American Classics programmes. The small-group seminars provide high-level discussion of literature, history and philosophy.

Graduates often continue to PhD studies.
