Coding Principles for Educators

Each week you will work in a visual programming environment, creating simple animations and interactive games that can be demonstrated in a classroom setting. Hands-on labs guide you through building code blocks, testing behaviour and refining projects, while regular tutorials help you reflect on how these activities align with teaching objectives. The blended, part-time format combines online study with scheduled face-to-face sessions at the Letterkenny campus.

The programme explores the fundamentals of computational thinking, sequence, variables, selection, iteration and methods, asking how these concepts translate into engaging learning experiences for primary and post-primary students. It also raises awareness of the technical requirements needed to support coding activities in school environments, so you can plan resources and assess suitability. By focusing on principles rather than syntax, the course prepares you to introduce coding confidently into your teaching practice.

No prior programming experience is required.
